Mark Wahlberg was born June 5, 1971, in Dorchester, Mass., the youngest of nine children (and brother of New Kids on the Block member Donnie Wahlberg). First known as "Marky Mark," he struck gold with a hip-hop song and starred in a workout video before transitioning to acting with the made-for-TV movie The Substitute (1993).
It was Wahlberg's turn as an artfully endowed porn stud in Boogie Nights (1997) that skyrocketed him to A-list status in Hollywood. Since then, the actor has starred in a string of successful films, including Three Kings (1999), The Perfect Storm (2000), The Italian Job (2003) and The Departed (2006, for which he received a supporting actor Oscar nomination).
In 2010, Wahlberg scored a Golden Globe nod as Best Actor for his work in The Fighter. He also shares credits as creator and executive producer of the Emmy-nominated cable comedy series "Entourage."
