The daughter of a career Air Force man, Jessica Alba was born April 28, 1981, in Pomona, Calif., but moved to Mississippi and Texas with her family before landing permanently in California when she was 9. Alba took her first acting class at age 12 and within a year had been signed by an agent and starred in her first feature film, 1994's Camp Nowhere.

Parts in movies (including 1999's Never Been Kissed with Drew Barrymore), commercials and TV shows ("The Secret World of Alex Mack," "Flipper") followed, but Alba's big break didn't come until director James Cameron cast her as Max Guevera in the Fox TV show "Dark Angel." The series ran for two years, and Alba received a Golden Globe nomination in 2001 for her work on the program.

Since then, Alba has appeared in a number of high-profile movies, including Honey (2003), Sin City (with Bruce Willis, 2005) and Fantastic Four (2005).
